Derived from real life experience

Based on a plein air sketch on location, this watercolor painting captures a luminous afternoon near Campo Santo Stefano, one of Venice’s sunniest and most vibrant open spaces. At the heart of the composition stands the statue of Niccolò Tommaseo, poised before the ochre-toned mass of San Vidal Church (Chiesa di San Vidal). The church’s warm façade anchors the background, while the surrounding geometry of cafés, awnings, and wandering figures brings life and rhythm to the square.

To the left, the iconic yellow façade of the Venice Science Institute glows under the afternoon light, its cool balcony shadows offering striking contrast to the golden warmth.

In the middle ground, the heart of the painting reveals its most captivating dance: the play of vivid shadows and soft-edged shapes, connecting loosely painted people, umbrellas, pavement and pigeons in motion. Here, sunlight bounces off the stone pavement, creating highlights that flicker like reflections on water. The lively cafés tucked behind the statue pulse with quiet movement—people sipping coffee, reading, chatting, and resting in the shade. It’s in this zone that the painting truly breathes: a choreography of Venice’s communal life, unfolding in shapes that seem to drift and shift across the page.

Derived from the artist's real life experience and her unique take on the beauty of modern day Venice, this watercolor celebrates both the enduring theme of Venetian architecture and the warmth of collective human experiences. It invites the viewer to follow the subtle transitions between architectural mass and human figures, between shadow and illumination—offering a glimpse into the timeless and ever-changing rhythm of Venice.

Art prints FAQs

Do the art prints come with a mat? How do you ship them?

Each print comes with a mat and a backing board and is ready to frame. For protection during transportation, the matted prints are wrapped in a clear plastic sleeve and then put into a rigid, protective envelope.

How do I find the proper frame and mat size for your prints?

Please refer to the “Overall dimension (including mat)” in the product description for the proper frame size. For example, if it says “Overall size (including mat) is 14” x 11” (35.56cm x 27.94cm)”, then the print will fit a 14”x11” picture frame perfectly.

If you would like to change the mat, you can easily do so by detaching the print from the mat (I used artist tape and it’s non-permanent). Please make sure the alternative mat you are using matches the dimension of the “Mat opening” specified in the product description. For example, if it says “Mat opening/Area of the artwork is 10” x 7” (25.4cm x 17.78cm)” then it will fit a mat with an opening of 10” x 7” perfectly.

Will the art print contain the trademark that says “Ina Xi all rights reserved”?

No. The trademark is for previewing the artwork through my Web store only.
